Mark Farrell Research

Research in the Farrell lab at KU is motivated by our interest in biological systems at a molecular level. Of particular interest to our research efforts is the role of carbohydrates in different diseases and disease states. We endeavor to validate the importance of specific carbohydrates interactions in disease development and progression, and to utilize such exocellular interactions to direct a host immune response to target an invasive pathogen or diseased cell. As such, we engage in the design, synthesis of molecules, both small and large, in order to evaluate the potential of this therapeutic strategy.
